How I Started My Company In 24 Hours (Plus A New, Free Guide)

My company's origin story (a.k.a., how it all got started) might surprise you. As much as I believe in making an impact, I didn't launch my company because I saw some great need in the world I could fix.

The truth is: I was approached by and SVP of a Fortune-100 who said he had a project for me. He offered to pay me more in 6 months, working 10 hours a week; then I would've made annually working three times as many hours each week.

Aviva wasn't even two years old yet. And the 30-hour a week role I had on the table would only be a break even with daycare.

The SVP has had own question for me: “Did I have my own firm?”

I told him: “Give me 24 hours.” Because I believed I could learn how to build one in the extra hours I'd have each week.

In that first 24 hours, I went on LegalZoom to become an LLC and get an EIN. And I reached out to a consultant whose book I'd edited and asked her what she knew about contracts. She sent me the contract template she'd paid a lawyer a lot of money to draw up for her, and answered every question I had over the first week--and beyond. (As an aside, this is how women help each other launch their businesses, and if you need an incredible DEI and HR consultant, check her out.)

This weekend, I celebrated the five year anniversary of my company. Looking back, I am so honored to work with incredible clients on impactful projects. In this moment, I know this is what I'm meant to be doing. Looking forward, I know we're just getting started.

Oh, and I love celebrating milestones, so I pulled a fresh guide together on thought leadership, because if you're here; I know you have something meaningful to share with the world. (Click here to get it!)
