My 2022 in Review

There’s a Japanese proverb: “Fall down seven times, get up eight.”

I’m realizing, about a week into January—on the outer edges of when I can reflect on 2022 (yes, as I said you had to), that it took me an extra week to share what was worth celebrating because to honor the wins in hard, hard year—you’re also memorializing the fall. And when a professional cannonball coincides with a personal redefinition—it’s a lot.

But I did get back up. And what I built on either side was freaking impressive. And the last thing I’m going to do is miss the opportunity to share it with you. So here goes:

In January 2022, I worked side-by-side with a top producer at Discovery to create a multi-platform social media show that had a run of show down to the minute. It was experimental. It was diverse. It was warm. It was international. It was innovative. It was nimble. And it was extremely well-produced.

At the same, time I was coming up with ideas for Fireside Chat App that would grow into the hybrid audio experiences I’d always pictured social audio to grow into. I was running a strategy that accounted for 80+ influencers and 50 hours of weekly live social audio & podcast content; building out a model to compete with Masterclass; holding meetings on what seamless sponsored content that integrated and didn’t feel like podcast commercials would feel like; considering web3; and more.

I resigned in February—unexpectedly.

In the 10 months since, I:

  • Relaunched my company & rolled out a new series of offerings

  • Joined Kim Walsh’s Phillips’ Powerful Professionals—an 8-figure marketing firm—as both a marketing consultant in-house and Strategy Power Coach to train her community

  • spoke in NYC and LA at web3 events: moderating panels for a satellite event to NFT.NYC & at web3 LA

  • Created the First Season of My Show: Strategy With Sara (stayed tuned for podcast details and season 2!)

  • Went to the Book Launch for my longtime client Shanna Hocking, who I’ve coached as both an editor and strategist since the book was a dream

  • Began consulting for Roger Wakefield, the largest Blue Collar Influencer on social media, highlighting his thought leadership around ideas like “Tradesmen Built America” to define the brand and differentiate from stereotypical plumber messaging; planning the launch of a coherent family of brands

  • Wrote the article on everything Clubhouse did wrong

Here’s what’s kind of amazing about life and business: You get to keep iterating. When I hit a major goal for a client, I ask: What’s next? And I do the same for myself and my business. I’m getting ready to overhaul my brand, my offerings—yes, again. Because the fundamentals stay the same, but the landscape is a moving walkway beneath our feet and the scenery keeps changing.  The more I build and hear from you what you need, an observe what's happening with social media, the economy, web3---the more I can adapt so we can all stay out ahead together.

I’m so grateful you’re here with me. We have work to do—and it’s going to be a lot of fun.
