Does work-life balance exist over Holiday Break?

Last night, I worked until about 1 AM while my girls were asleep in the bed next to me in the hotel.

And I want to be very clear, I am not:

- upset about it

- saying it’s right for everyone, or even “right” at all

- wearing it as a badge of honor

- “glamorizing hustle culture”

- holding myself out as benchmark for others to feel any kind of way about their work

But here’s what has been on my mind.

At some point in the near past, the idea was put forth that we shouldn’t ask working mothers, especially founders and executives how they “do it all,” because “no one can do it all.” 

I don’t subscribe to this shift. I do it all. And I’m proud of myself.

I’m not afraid of hard work in a building stage.

I’m proud that showing up more as myself and my brand is leading to new clients. I’m proud to uphold the promises I made to current clients about this week. I’m proud that I built a business that allows me to take my girls on winter vacation and have the flexibility to spend all day visiting places and friends (and everything else they need.)

I work at home and at work-as most working parents, and as we know disproportionately falls on working mothers. I do it all.

So:

If you don’t do it all, and it works for you, great.

If you do, and you aspire to build in systems and revenue that allow you to do less (don’t we all), I hope you can build them this year. 

And if you’re in the building stage where you’re doing it all- and your proud of your efforts alongside your success-you can ignore anyone who tells you “nobody does it all,” and keep on doing it.
